I Should Have Brought Bleach...

So about two months ago, we took Abby for her very first dental appointment. It was a disaster! We took her to a pediatric dentist because we thought they would be better equipped to make it a pleasant experience. Boy, were we wrong. Abby was terrified from the second she saw the chair. Then the dentist and hygienist were a lot more forceful with her than she is used to. She cried the whole time. I was appalled and livid by the time we left there. Needless to say, we will not be back. So, fast forward to today. I had a dentist appt. for myself and decided perhaps it would be a good idea to take the girls to see what it was like and also to see if they would check Abby over for me in a non-threatening way. The previous quack had mentioned that Abby might have a cavity but couldn't be sure because she wouldn't open her mouth long enough. Mike was supposed to join me but he was called into work so I took the girls by myself. When we got there they took us back quickly and I set Lissie onto a swivel stool by the counter and Abby chose to stand, back against the wall, next to her. The hygienist, Amy, and I worked hard to explain to the girls what was happening and they just stared completely awed. Everything was going according to plan. Of course, thats when, halfway through my cleaning, Abby decided she needed to use the bathroom. So there we all go, me with my special plastic glasses and bib to the restroom. I'm sure we looked very entertaining. When we got back, I settled the girls back in their places and got ready for the scraping part of my cleaning. I HATE that part but I've been flossing so it wasn't too bad. Phew. As she is just about to get to the end, Amy looks up and says "she's about to fall!" I look over at Lissie and get up to re-adjust her seat when I notice she has something in her hand...A SHARPIE!!!!!!!!! Not only that but she has already colored all over the white formica counter top! Amy, clearly not a mom, flips out and rushes for the soft scrub and a scrubbie sponge. So there we all are, sitting on the dentist chair, while Amy desperately tries to clean permanent black marker off a previously clean, white surface. It was awful. She eventually got it somewhat clean and resumed my cleaning. It went much quicker after that. Finally, it was Abby's turn and as you could imagine, it also didn't go well but Amy was able to see in her mouth while Abby stood stick straight against the wall with her mouth partially open. Of course, that was her limit, by the time the dentist showed up she was done and all bets were off. He did say that I have beautiful teeth though:) Then as if it weren't a bad enough trip to the dentist, the new girl at the checkout took forever and Lissie decided to assert her desire to dominate mommy declaring "No, YOU do it!" when I asked her to put her coat on. She then proceded to scream and cry as the girl asked me to set up my next appointment. Are you kidding me?! Can you not hear my screaming child? All I want to do here is LEAVE!!! By the time we got home, the crying had finally stopped and the rest of the day went well...that is until shower time. As I was getting the girls jammies, they locked me out of the room and got in the shower! What a day!!!
