Evergreen, CO

Everytime we head to the mountains, the very first thing the girls ask for is to see the buffalo or "luffalo" as Lissie still calls them.

This time they were a little hard to find but after taking a dirt road we found them. As you can tell, Abby was very happy!

This herd was the females and their babies.

Once in Evergreen we headed to the lake and went for a nice, LONG walk.

The girls were very excited to be able to run on the boardwalk and look at all the different birdlife.

Here's Abby checking out some ducks.

Grandpa and his girls.

The dam waterfall was awesome. Lissie liked it so much she almost slid right down it from the top of those stairs on the right. She attempted to climb over the railing while we weren't watching!

Happy Birthday!

Abby's best little friend Eli had a firefighter birthday party so Abby got to visit the firehouse.

She had a blast! Although she was a tad concerned when the firefighter's mascot, a parrot, bit Mommy's finger. Don't worry, I survived.

She also LOVED the cake.

We also found out that Abby has an affinity for tee ball.

Belleview Park

We just found a wonderful park! Gigi took us all to Belleview park where they have an awesome petting zoo, a train, a playground and even a creek that the kids can play in.

We spent most of our time at the petting zoo. The girls were a little timid to start but warmed up quickly!

There were goats, lambs, pigs, a pony and even a baby cow.

Here is Lissie with her favorite goat, Annabelle.

We also rode the train but thankfully, for Mom, we skipped the creek!

Bathtime at Granny and Grandpa's

I don't remember how it started but one day, Granny gave the girls a bath at her house. Ever since then, every time we're at Granny's Lissie immediately starts getting "naked baby" and asks for a bath!!! Here are some cute pics.

Memorial Day, Our Last Day

On our last morning as we were tidying up, the girls decided to be adorable! I just had to take this picture.

The drive home was long. Lissie fell asleep early and napped for about a half an hour.

Abby actually conked out too.

I'd like to say the drive home was as easy and pleasant as the drive there but that would be a lie. It was long, very long and on the last half an hour as I was desperately trying to get back, I was pulled over for my very first traffic ticket! Other than that though, it was a wondeful trip and the girls and I had a great time in the mountains. Thank you so much John and Karen for letting us join your family.

Memorial Day Weekend Day 3

This morning we took a little day trip to Crested Butte. It was freezing and raining when we got there so we found a little store front opening and had our lunch inside.

After lunch it warmed up a bit so we went and played on the very cool playground. The children spent most of their time on the swings! Abby loved the big girl swing until she fell off. Poor baby got quite the bruise on her back.

Look how high Eli is flying.

Lissie loved her swing too and was very upset when we decided we had to get off and head home before the next downpour!

Strollers and S'mores

Everyday the little ones took the play stollers and the real ones out to the sloped driveway and ran up and down for ages. They had a blast. Who knew those would be the favorite toys?!

It was finally nice enough this evening to have a campfire and make S'mores

The children all loved getting to toast their own marshmallows.

Of course, eating the final product wasn't bad either!

Lissie really enjoyed her S'mores. After awhile though she decided she only wanted the chocolate and marshmallow...a girl after Mommy's own heart!

The girls around the campfire.

Abby made a game out of chasing the smoke. It was great til it got in her eyes. Poor baby.

This night, Abby passed out on the couch while I was waiting for Lissie to fall asleep. Isn't she adorable?

Memorial Day Weekend Day 2

We woke up early this morning and after breakfast and some laundry (its not a mountain vacation for Mommy if there isn't a load of laundry to do) we decided to go on an "adventure walk." We took binoculars and went looking for deer and elk, or their poop! The kids had a great time and even got to meet a few dogs.
The setting was very pretty so I took the opportunity to take some portraits of my beautiful girls.
Lissie loves to say "cheese" and there are now very few pictures with her that she doesn't have this expression on her face.
Mommy and her girls.
Both girls actually took naps this afternoon! It was great. When they woke up though it was raining so we decided to have some craft time. They got to play with clay, pipe cleaners and Abby even cut with scissors.
So the events for this evening were slightly better. I decided to put Lissie to bed first. Once she was asleep, I took Abby down to sleep on the little bed of pillows I made for her. As soon as we got there, Lissie woke up. Now, had I been smart, I would have taken Abby out and waited longer for Lissie to get to sleep, but I'm not! I put Abby into bed and then went to camp out on the stairs. Two and a half hours of giggling, laughing and shrieking later, both girls finally fell asleep. Mommy took sleeping pills and had a wonderful nights sleep!

Memorial Day Weekend Day 1

Mike had to work this Memorial Day weekend so the girls and I drove with some friends up to Cimarron to their family's cabin. The drive up was over 6 hours but it went surprisingly well.

Here is Lissie having a funny moment. Abby cracked up when she saw Lissie with her finger in her nose.
Both girls were really well behaved in the car. They looked at the white water rafters, the trains (there were lots), and listened to some new CDs we borrowed from Miss Karen. Abby was thrilled to be going to the mountains and a "new" house. Of course, on the way up she declared, "We're in the wrong mountains! We need to go to the SNOW mountains!!!"
Once we finally arrived the kids were wired. They ran all over the place and, of course, none of them wanted to take naps. My solution...put on the My Gym DVD I brought with. The kids loved it and started out exercising but ended up on the couch. It did keep them busy enough for us to get dinner going.
After spaghetti, all of the little ones needed a bath. Don't they look adorable all in the tub together? I think the bath might have been the highlight for Lissie. She LOVES to take baths.
The real drama happened at bed time. To sum up a traumatic night I'll just say Abby threw up, Lissie changed beds twice and at around 4 AM, Mommy ended up on the floor!!!

Swim Lessons

Abby has been having a wonderful time in her swim lessons. Here she is with her good buddy Eli and a new friend in her class.

The kids are all doing so well in their class. Miss Liz, the one in the pink wetsuit, is their teacher and they are learning how to scissor kick, blow bubbles and scoop. Abby is very good at going under water and scooping. She is a little timid though when it comes to jumping into the pool. She's having a blast and we are so proud of how far she's come.

After lessons the kids go to the locker rooms to change....or play in the lockers! There was at least one time when I thought I'd lost Lissie only to find her in the locker!

After swimming if its nice weather we like to take the kiddos to the park so that the little ones who didn't get to swim can also have some fun! On this day, Miss Karen brought yummy popsicles. The girls LOVED them!
